Digital Photography

Digital photography started out in the 1970's as a way for newspapers to get photos for the scene of a news event and into the newspaper rapidly in order to compete with the TV news. Digital photography has progressed from large, bulky and heavy cameras with little storage capacity to the new mini digital photography cameras that are as small as a slim cell phone and as powerful as some computers.

Digital photography has democratized the hobby of photography. Now everyone can carry a camera and take almost as many pictures as they want. Digital photography today is done by people of all ages and from all walks of life. You can do digital photography with your cell phone, and almost everybody has a cell phone and you can do digital photography with a digital camera. Digital photography, once you have the equipment, is much cheaper than traditional photography because you are using an electronic storage medium that can hold up to thousands of images. With digital photography, you can also delete photos from storage and re-use the storage medium.

this gives digital photography a huge advantage over traditional photography where once the film was exposed to light, you could not use it again. People had to be very selective about the photos they took because of the expense. Now, with digital photography, you can just shoot away and erase the ones you don't want. Also with digital photography, there is no waiting to see how your photos turned out. Most digital photography cameras have a view screen built right into them so you can preview your digital photography right away and keep the shots you want and delete the rest.

This feature  of digital photography can be very helpful as you will know right away whether or not you need to re-shoot the photo or not. How many times have we all anxiously waited for our family photos to come back from the lab only to discover that in every shot, somebody or other had their eyes closed or everybody had red eye? Well, with digital photography, that is no longer a concern. You can shoot, look at your photo and then shoot again right away if necessary. Digital photography sure takes a lot of the guess work out of photography.

And digital photography can sure take a lot of the disappointment out of photography too. And with digital photography, the end user is able to manipulate their photos in many ways that were once only possible in the developing lab. With digital photography, you can adjust your photo to suit your tastes right on your own computer. With digital photography, you can adjust the saturation levels of light and color. With digital photography, you can zoom in on small parts of the photo and crop the rest out.
